I think the new show, its a good thing. A really good thing to exist for the Turtles. It's like 80% good, which is pretty high for this sort of property.
I love the shows creative freedom in letting tons of mutants, aliens, and crazy stuff run around. It utilizes cool elements from the past that I want to see (like Mutagen Man! Dustin Weaver and I wanted to have a Mutagen Man reference in the Rocksteady and Bebop micro, but then the show used him so we figured we should back off) and brings in exciting new stuff like the sea monster and cool Turtles sub.
They aren't afraid of having fun with the property and seem to be moving right along with the story.
Someone mentioned they are more ninja-like in this show and I can agree. In 2k3 they were all about honor like samurai-ninjas.. Didn't make sense for me at least
Ooh, really like this. More suited to the style I'm used to seeing you use in the Archie comics. So, yeah, I like this a lot.
Again, great work man!
I also love how, for probably the first time (as a TV show), they are more their own character, not slightly different knock-offs of each other with slightly different personalities and slightly different voices
and on top of that, this is probably one of the few times they are actually portrayed as ninjas! and not just action heroes with martial arts weapons and a dictionary of puns and one liners.
Or at least on tv, I've seen the cartoon at a really young age, but I've recapped not to long ago. then I remember seeing the live action series as a kid, and also recapped on that just Netflix browsing and looking for something to share with my little bro. I've never gotten to read a single comic though =\
Tell you the truth, I remember next to nothing of that 4Kids TNMT cartoon, so I'll take your word for it.
the live action movies were nice and all, but they were in one way or the other, silly-fied versions of action movies at the time (with a darkish/"child friendly enough" tone)
Also, I had forgotten to mention the CG animated movie, which I've only seen snippets of... it looked way cool, without a doubt, but seemed forgettable for the most part.
And lastly, I feel this generation of TNMT has a more "ninja" feel to it because the japanese philosophy/tone, or how they are usually looking for the sneaky way into things instead of always crashing through a window (and related/unstealthy entries) and the fight scenes aren't full of silly and unneeded playing around, instead more focused on getting the job done (which they might've been in the 4Kids cartoon, I can't remember)
oh, and don't get me started on the classic games... not ninja the slightest i'd say. lol (not bad games, just they are not being assassins the slightest)
All these are strictly opinions anywho, so yeah, there are biases based on my collective idea that the "Ninja" is a title for someone taught (self taught or otherwise) in the martial arts and other skill sets required by the feudal japanese era assassins (when most likely, either now or at the time, ninja was probably a term used basically on any feudal japanese era assassin, trained or not) so yeah, just biases based on the TMNT feeling more akin to "assassins" in this new series.
Also, I apologize if I come off as rude. there not being a proficient way of typing your "tone" on DA (Italics, bold, etc. and if there is a way, I don't know it), I understand not wanting to sound impolite.
So yeah, no worries XD
I love this show! I hope they put Alopex in it.
What character would you want?
Archie I think lost the rights to do more reprints of the Archie "TMNT Adventures" series from the '90s, (like that book they released of the original mini-series as part of the "TMNT 25th anniversary") but I hear another company is going to make reprints of the old Archie TMNTA comics. (Unfortunately, they'll likely be more expensive then Archie's book reprints.)
I tried getting into the show with me being a long-time turtles fan I really did but I just can't get comfortable with it for some reason.
Eh, its just not my cup of tea.
I think 1 thing is the humor. Yeah its a kids show, but its predecessor was a kids show and had humor but never felt like it was trying to pander to its younger audience, which is what I get from this show. The humor just feels forced at times, like they are trying to recapture that long burned out 1987 flair but not really doing a good job at it, hell "Turtles Forever" did a better job and that was parodying the 1987 series. And it bugs me that they have to use Anime Emotional Expressions in a series where it was never needed to be funny, like somehow your going to get a jolly if you saw Michelangelo using a shocked anime expression. I would be okay with it if this show was trying to mimic an eastern art style like Teen Titans, but its not and I feel that those kind of tropes should stay within their genres of animation, this is coming from a person who enjoys western and eastern animations.
Another is plot. its like a mesh of the 2003 and 1987 plots and I was hoping that with this new series would come new ideas, new rehashed ones. in the 10 episodes I watched I kept saying to myself "thats from TMNT 2003" or "thats from the classic series" but I guess when you try new you end up with...The Next Mutation. and I'm still downing brain bleach daily to forget about that mess...
The rest is small nitpicks. character designs for some characters, retcons, the weird Donatello X April crush, Mikey's new catchphrase, the voices.
Couple things this show got right though, they FINALLY made master splinter not a weak and feeble character, I always hated that trait that their master was weaker then the rest of them. like the fact that some characters from the comics and the old '87 series are making animated appearances, something I was hoping the '03 series would do but never did. theres more but I'm tired atm.
So yeah I think its just every aspect of this show that just doesn't sit well with me. but I fee like I'm in bizarro world because just about everyone likes this show except me and usually I'm the guy that likes everything everybody doesn't like.
