IDW TMNT Limited color sketch 01 by BenBates IDW TMNT Limited color sketch 01 by BenBates
I was lucky enough to contribute some color sketches for the Secret History of the Foot Clan limited edition stuff. I've got nearly zero experience in producing traditional color art so this was an intimidating request. But I dove in and just started making stuff up.

Having started out with traditional means of coloring myself when I first got into art, I find this interesting to see! Only I used colored pencils instead of markers, which seems to be what you used here. For you not having experience in this, it came out pretty nicely! I'm impressed with your traditional work and it serves as a chance for you to expand your skills and see what else you can do as a break from the usual.

Your style is interesting, too. The way you color with those markers gives it a bit of a sketchy feel as if it were done with pencils and adds texture, but at the same time the coloring remains smooth and neat! I can never figure out how people color so well with markers. xD

Thanks! I'm really pretty lucky the final product is supposed to be sketchy!

I suppose with the markers, like all things, the more I did the more comfortable I became and the more risks I took. I guess if I kept working with them eventually I might get past the sketchy phase and start producing something more controlled and polished. Hmmm, there's a lesson here. To just sit down and start doing something. Then keep doing it.

If it is "zero" experience... I wanna see "good" experience.
Are simple brushstrokes...and you made a fantastic piece! I love the faces of theme and the poses. Very good work! :)
