I like that idea of her having extreme gear. Your art style for the sonic comics is amazing. I like the manga influence you have when you draw the expressions of the characters. You are one my favorite Sonic artists. Keep up the good work!
She's great and all, but what if Ian pulls an ace from his sleeves and suddenly writes down "Bunnie's limbs are reverted back to robotic form, due to Ixis' slowly weakened state"? Something like from that SatAM episode where Bunnie was derobotized for a short while before the effects suddenly wore off?
First off, I wanna say that I really like the colors and lineart here. Everything's so bold and sharp. Very neat.
Secondly, cool picture. I haven't been keeping up on the comics, but I knew Bunnie lost/gave up her metal limbs recently. Looks like she's finding other ways to kick tail though, not that I ever doubted her.
It's long overdue, but thank you for letting us use this picture in our gallery at #S-S-S-S-S-Squad! If you wanna try your hand at winning a prize, we're having our first contest now through New Year's Day. If you're interested or know anyone who might be, just click this [link].
interesting. When you think about extreme gear and a gun (I really like the gun), she probably doesn't need to be roboticized to do what she been doing for the team (for the most part). on another end, I feel like a more personal story for her character (being unhappy with her appearance) may be lost. Her cybernetics were the great issue she had with her appearance. Yes Antoine sort of told her she was beautiful. However, it just seems like she concentrates of his view of her, so that she doesn't have to focus on her own view. Many girls still do that. But when she feels Antoine no longer thinks of her as suitable for him, she would do something like date who she thought was Sonic out of desperation. Not really happy at the prospect that angle could leave the comic when it wasn't really explored much in the first place. A very personal issue with herself is also very hard to find for her, in a way that could easily be injected into any story.
Love the 'star post' things on the gun and belt. Though, I kinda like Bunnie without the cyclops eye. I also dunno how much I aesthetically like her hair in a braid with ears so long. Maybe it just seems asymmetrical to me or something. I do *get* though that some could understand that as helping her to look more 'western' or 'southern' and the simplified heart shape of the braid is pretty cute lol.
My guess on Bunnie's future: Her organic limbs will revert back to the cybernetic ones, like the scene from one SatAM episode, when the derobotization effects didn't last long and Bunnie's limbs reverted back to the robotized ones.
I'll assume this is not an official design, since it has the Archives-style eye-shadow, the one in the shape of Sonic's eyes. A shame- Archie should be consulting you constantly for character design, in Sonic at least; you're one of the few who seem to understand what works to make it in-style and yet individual for each character, instead of everyone looking like Tails.
Amazing. Simply amazing, dude. You're a real inspiration to me.
Someday I wanna be as awesome as you at drawing. I really. Do you think you could give me any tips for the future? If not that's totally fine. I know you're busy and you probably get a lot of comments asking that. I really just love you're art. And if you even took the time to read this is just as good for me. I'm really honored to be able to view your art. And don't tell Yardley this but... I like your Art best of all the Sonic Artists.
Thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply. Tips for the future, I think they always come down to being the same thing for all developing artists. I would say learn to master using construction drawing. For characters and environments. You may already be using this, but when I was your age I using construction drawing or underdrawing with shapes was all a waste of time. Well, I was wrong. I use construction drawing all the time now and if I had started young I would be far better as an artist than I am now. Also, see if you can find yourself a book on establishing perspective, and master this technique. It'll be used with characters but it will be vital in bringing your evironments to life. Learning about establishing a horizon line and vanishing points will do so much for you. Those are the fundamental skills that will make you a great artist!
Feel free to ask questions anytime! It may take me a while to respond but I'll try to share any knowledge and guidance I can.
Well, I mean the design is just so streamlined. It's perfect for her, especially the torn southern skirt. The stars on her belt and gun fit with the stars on the springs in the games. The boots are perfect for her. I dunno. Everything about it screams, "THIS IS A SONIC CHARACTER."
You need to slap Paul in the face (Dubs style) and make this canon. I'm sure he'll understand. <8D
Well, Bunnie's deroboticization was certainly a big plot twister, but I'm not sure if she'll be able to hold her own in terms of...well, I hate to say, 'usefulness' as a character, and a Freedom Fighter. Don't get me wrong! I've always liked Bunnie, and I think she is an irreplaceable friend to Sally and co., but it's because of her robot-ness that she was one of the most valuable forces in FF history, able to turn the tides of battles easily. With just an airboard, someone's going to have to compensate for such a big loss, and they are running out of candidates.
I guess this explains how Jacques and Belle got there though, lol.
BAH. ANYWAY. I absolutely adore your style, Mr. Bates! So cute and functional, and I love the colors you have on her airboard! Very, very nice.
Nicely done Ben, deroboticized Bunnie is certainly growing on me. I'm an old fashion guy who doesn't like major changes in one swoop, but this is a good one, it's just a shame she's currently not in the comic. I'm hoping she returns soon.
Very nice work. I kinda like the Extreme gear board to. I'm a li'l mixed on her being deroboticized. Her robotic limbs were a unique aspect of her character, and helped her stand out from the rest of the cast. On the other hand, it's interesting to see her a bit "depowered," and have to cope without them, and the powers they gave her after so long.
Still, I like how it's making half the fans out there freak out. (Which is kinda ironic, sense some fans wanted her to be deroboticized, and thought it was "sad" when she couldn't be.) I also like that "a wizard did it." (Which was something Ian sometimes said when asked about some unexplainable things in the comic. Obviously a "Simpsons" joke to.)
